Laura Nicolette planned on becoming a high school English teacher, but her career path changed when her college roommate teasingly suggested that she should enroll in “Introduction to Criminal Justice Studies” at the College of Saint Elizabeth. Laura learned she had a passion for the law and, then a college Junior, changed her minor from “Secondary Education” to “Criminal Justice”. In 2009, she graduated with the Sister Hildegarde Maria Mahoney Award for General Excellence.
Before ultimately attending law school at Thomas M. Cooley in Lansing, Michigan, Laura interned for the Honorable Joseph P. Donohue in the Union County Superior Court. While in law school, Laura was a summer intern for the Honorable Rosemarie Aquilina (national attention for the sentencing Larry Nassar), a member of Mock Trial and Law Review, and 2011 finalist in the Intra-School Moot Court Class. During her final semester at Cooley, Laura returned to New Jersey, where she had the privilege of interning for Javerbaum Wurgaft. While interning, she assisted in the research for an amicus brief before the New Jersey Supreme Court regarding the right to privacy in cell phone location (State v. Earls, 214 N.J. 564) and presenting an insanity defense in a high-profile New York City murder case. In the fall of 2012, Laura returned to Judge Donohue to commence her judicial clerkship and returned to Javerbaum Wurgaft as a full-time Associate in the fall of 2013.
Laura’s practice comprises of motor vehicle and premise actions, criminal defense, and civil county defense work. In 2019, Laura, with the assistance of Partner David Wikstrom, settled her first million-dollar case against a commercial-automobile carrier. Laura is an active member of the Union County Bar Association and was the Young Lawyer Trustee from 2017-2019. She was recently appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on the District XII Ethics Committee.
When Laura is not at the office, she enjoys spending time with her niece and nephews, discovering new breweries with friends, and watching/attending WWE events with her husband.
