Department of Veterans Affairs and New Jersey Medicaid Settle False Claims Act Case Against Seabrook House
Springfield, NJ, May 2, 2025 – Javerbaum Wurgaft Hicks Kahn Wikstrom & Sinins, P.C. and the United States Attorneys Office for the District of New Jersey announced a $19,751,762.69 settlement against Summit BHC New Jersey LLC, locally known as Seabrook House. The complaint alleged that Seabrook House violated the False Claims Act by committing Medicaid Fraud and fraud against the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The case was filed by Javerbaum Wurgaft partners and nationally recognized Qui Tam attorneys Ross Begelman and Marc Orlow and was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Kaufman. The whistleblower, who worked for Seabrook House, alleged that it submitted false claims for payment to Veterans Affairs and the New Jersey Medicaid program for services that were either not rendered or qualified to perform. Investigations also found that Seabrook House allegedly hid its lack of services and wrongdoings to Veterans Affairs inspectors.
“It takes a lot of courage for our client to come forward to report the fraud that she observed and the wrongdoings to Veterans,” said partner Ross Begelman. “We are pleased that our client and our joint efforts with the U.S. Attorneys Office have brought this matter to an end.”
