Milagros Alvarez
Of Counsel
Milagros “Mily” C. Alvarez is a person who believes in justice and takes her duty to her clients seriously. Born in Camaguey, Cuba, she and her family fled Cuba arriving in the United States at the age of three. She was primarily raised in the City of Elizabeth in a working class Cuban family. Her parents worked several jobs in order to pay for her Catholic School education. She learned her strong work ethic and the meaning of loyalty and honor from her parents. Milagros admired the courage and tenacity of her family who arrived in this country with only the clothes on their backs. Her family learned English, learned the ways of Capitalism and after years of hard work and countless hours her family became business owners. The importance of higher education was always instilled in her from an early age. Milagros received a Catholic School primary and secondary education where she learned about the sense of community and helping her fellow men and women. She shares the fundamental values of inclusion and appreciation for all cultures and nationalities. Milagros primarily raised her children now 28 and 25 on her own. She too has raised her children with a strong work ethic, sense of tradition, pride in being Cuban-Americans and a keen appreciation to live in a country where there is freedom and opportunity. Milagros earned her B.A. from Seton Hall University in 1985 graduating Cum Laude with a major in Political Science and a concentration in American government. In 1987, she earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Seton Hall University receiving the Graduate Student Award from 1985-1987. She received her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1992. Milagros comes with a wealth of litigation experience being a practicing attorney of over 28 years in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, insurance, worker’s compensation and PIP. She has defense experience and as a result brings a keen insight from the defense side that serves her well when representing plaintiffs. For the majority of her career she has championed the rights of injured individuals and continues to do so at Javerbaum Wurgaft. Milagros created new law in the State of New Jersey which allowed rule relaxation of Best Practice Rules to promote fundamental fairness and interests of justice standards as contained in R. 4:17-7(1.1) and 1:1-2(4) in the area of civil law litigation. Known for her passionate persona and often creative representation of her clients, Milagros loves a good fight and shies away from no challenge, whether in her personal or professional life. She prides herself and is committed to the highest levels of ethical, professional and personal excellence.
