Douglas E. Burns
Partner
Doug Burns is a cum laude graduate of Boston University. He first attended University of California’s Hastings College of Law, where he was named to the Law Review, and then transferred to Rutgers University School of Law where he earned his J.D. degree.
Burns devotes substantial time representing clients in business matters and has particular expertise in commercial transactions, equipment sale and financing transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, and employment law. Negotiating complex commercial contracts and resolving complex commercial disputes are his forte. He has represented domestic and multi-national companies across many industry sectors, including equipment manufacturers, equipment financing companies, flavor and fragrance companies, software developers, commercial landlords and service companies.
In addition to handling business matters, Burns is unique in that he is also an experienced trial attorney. He has handled civil litigation in a wide range of areas including commercial and employment matters, as well as personal injury claims. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in major personal injury and product liability litigation and has obtained million-dollar recoveries by trial and settlement (Results may vary depending on your particular facts and legal circumstances). His dispute resolution skills and claim evaluation expertise have been fine tuned by serving for over 30 years as a court appointed arbitrator.
He is also a delegate/member of Mackrell International, an international organization of independent law firms with approximately 90 member firms in 60 countries around the world, and served on the organization’s Management Committee for six years. Through his involvement with Mackrell International he regularly attends meetings in locations around the world and has developed significant contacts and expertise in international business transactions.
