Rubin M. Sinins and Eric G. Kahn, attorneys at Javerbaum Wurgaft Hicks Kahn Wikstrom & Sinins, P.C., have filed a federal case aimed at safeguarding the rights of mental health patients in New Jersey State facilities.
Along with Disability Rights New Jersey, Sinins and Kahn are seeking to end abusive practices, neglect, and segregation within the state’s psychiatric hospitals. Individuals have been sexually, physically, and emotionally assaulted, sometimes resulting in permanent injuries or death. The lawsuit demands accountability and systemic change from responsible agencies, seeking to end the suffering endured by vulnerable individuals.
“This lawsuit advocates for a mental health care system that upholds the rights and dignity of every person”, states Mr. Sinins.
“There is an urgent need for systemic change in New Jersey’s psychiatric facilities. We will not stop until change is effected”, adds Mr. Kahn.
